Day 249: Charing Cross Mansions

The first and grandest red sandstone tenement in the city, Charing Cross Mansions
was designed by JJ Burnett in 1891 and built for Robert Simpson & Son.

The "grande horloge" at the centre of the façade alludes to the passing of time and
the seasons and the clock face is bordered with the signs of the Zodiac.
It is surrounded by four crouching and standing figures representing
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, inspired by the sculpture of Michelangelo.
Above it are two reclining figures representing Commerce and Industry.
